I’ve spent the last few days sourcing hanging pendants and chandeliers for a few clients and it dawned on me. Why not share what I found with you?

Selecting Statement Lighting

Here are a few considerations when choosing a chandelier or pendant that will stand out in any space:

  1. Make sure the light is centered where ever you are hanging it – above the table or entryway. Sometimes it is tempting to cut corners and use existing lighting cans and use existing conduit but then it won’t be properly centered. Take the time and effort to make sure your lighting is situated correctly.
  2. How much light do you need? If there is already recessed lighting and/or sconces in the space, then you may not need as many lights on the chandelier. If it is the only light source, consider a multiple light chandelier instead.
  3. If if you are selecting a fixture for the dining room, consider the dining table’s size. A chandelier should be around 1/3 of the size of the table. For a 60 inch round table, the diameter of the chandelier would be 20 inches across. That said, there are no design rules if you want to make a statement!
  4. Leave approximately 24-30 inches between the table and the bottom of the fixture. It really depends on how big and long or short and round the light you choose.

I mean look at what I chose for my dining table. I purposely chose an oversized West Elm Grand Mobile Chandelier to make the ultimate mid-century vibe/statement. This lighting says I am bold and here to stay! Sleek and minimal, it leaves enough design space for accents, colors and layers.

Sorry but not sorry, here is another one from Anthropologie! This will make everyone who comes to your haven SWOON. Light, bright and happy! Perfect for inviting your friends and family to hang and enjoy time together around the dining table.
