Hey there! I don’t think I have written about window treatments on this blog yet. I just got woven shades installed in our master last week and it prompted me to give you some design tips and inspo for all things woven!
My mind is blown away whenever I see this window. When we first moved in it was covered by old wooden blinds. Then a few years ago they broke. So in a pinch, I ordered the same ones online. Talk about regret! Don’t get me wrong, wooden blinds offer versatility beyond compare. You can have total privacy, semi-privacy or pull them all the way up.
Woven shades only gives you two choices: up or down. Ha! However….the design look it gives wins over wooden blinds.
Decorate your windows with woven shades
Just look at these inspo from my favorite designers.

You see that leather end table? Mark my words, someday I will have this in my home. It is way out of my budget but I will find something like it or win the lottery and be able to buy two for my room! Either way, they are my spirit animals and I need them in my design life!

I consider Amber Interiors the Queen of Woven Shades, in almost every space she designs with windows, you can bet your bottom dollar, woven shades are there. And why would you argue? It is the perfect design every. time.
I hear you saying at this point, ok Anita, so what about your home? How have you incorporated woven shades? Well, thank you for asking! *wink*
Woven Shades In My Home
I have always loved woven shades. Growing up we had woven roman shades in the kitchen but they were a bit too brown for my liking but the texture was on point.
When I put in roller shades for my own kitchen, I considered woven shades as well. But two things stopped me:
- The edges fray easily when they are moved multiple times a day, like in our kitchen.
- I had a hard time matching the look to the large window extraordinaire in the family room. Plus, it would weight a TON to pull that puppy up and down every day.
So instead we put woven shades in my oldest daughter’s room.
But what I really am excited about is how incredible they look in our new master bedroom makeover! Along with adding a window frame and baseboards, the new woven shades and drapery are on point to my design goal.
Here is a view of the shades in my bedroom workspace area. Don’t you just love it?
I am in love, love, love!
You want to know the best part? And this is *completely* unsponsored. I found these shades at a fraction of what a designer window treatment studio would charge. I am obsessed with The Shade Store but my budget just wouldn’t allow it.
Sometimes that is the best situation (albeit frustrating). It prompted me to do some research on affordable shades. I found this site and the quality compared to the designer shades were extremely comparable!

If you have windows that need new shades, consider woven shades for a clean and textured look. Love the Scandinavian or the California Casual vibe? This is definitely a top contender.
So on a scale of 1-10, what is your rating for my new bedroom? Coming soon is a full blog post on the makeover!
Happy day!
Can you point me to which shade you got and the color name? It’s hard to tell from the pictures online. Thanks!
natural linen!Good luck!
Hi Anita,
I love the blinds you chose. I went on the site and searched natural linen, but could only find ‘linen’ or ‘natural’ options, not natural linen. Could you post a link for the blinds? I have been trying to track down a woven shade dupe from the top designs we all love and have not had success. Thanks for finding one!
here is the link! https://www.stevesblindsandwallpaper.com/Blinds/product/6857-steves-best-bamboo-woven-wood-shade the color is LINEN
Where is your bed from?
West Elm!
They look very good! I also am considering the shades store but it’s so pricey. What is the width of your window and do you find it heavy to operate? My window is similar size to yours. Thanks!
It is not heavy to operate! The wooden blinds before were!
They are not heavy to operate! The wood blinds were far more heavy. I give a great budget friendly option!
Have been looking feverishly for a budget alt to the Shade Store to get that Amber Interiors look, so glad I came across this post! Thank you Anita, your master bedroom looks heavenly 🙂
So glad I can help! xo
I am so happy to help! xo
LOVE! The woven shades and actually ordered samples from the direct link you shared in the comments. My eyes may be playing tricks on me but the shades in your picture look more like a fabric material and the sample I got feels a bit more like woven straw? Would you say the texture of yours is more like fabric or straw?
Hi! All woven shades are textured. It is not really straw but even high end shades will have this feel to it. If you want the look but the feel of fabric, it actually might come off looking a tiny bit off. I hope this helps!
I love everything about your bedroom! Looking to get these same blinds. Do you remember the options you chose to get this look? Specifically wondering about these:
Standard (with valence) vs Waterfall shade (no valence)…
One or multiple shades per headrail? If multiple, do they seem to operate smoothly still?
Liner or no, and if so what kind? I’m worried about bulk and yours keep a minimal profile which I love compared to others I’ve seen!
And will you also share where you get your desk & chair? Sorry for such a tall order. Just love your style!
This is such a gorgeous room! Question for you, do your shades have a valence at the top? I can’t quite tell.
Thanks!
Do you have a privacy liner on yours? Cord type?
Thx!!!
yes I have black out liner and cord is on right hand side.
I know this is an old post but I have a question! Did you choose the standard style shade with a valance, or the waterfall style shade with no valance? I wish I could do standard with no valance but that’s not an option!
Hi! I did not get a valance. I hope this helps! xo
I really like your article, thanks for sharing.
thank you so much! I love sharing my design thoughts with you!
Wow! THANK YOU for this post! I was literally about to place an order on a different website for some woven shades with a valance because I couldn’t find what I wanted without a valance. But now I have thanks to you! AND so much less expensive on your suggested website! This is awesome!
you are so welcome! I love helping!
One question: what type of lift system did you choose? Standard cord, cordless…
How do you like what you ended up with? Thanks!
Oops! Just saw the answer to my question in a different comment above. 🙂
Where is the woven/jute rug from?
lolol rugs!
This is really a great design. I was planning to upgrade from a long time. Finally I’ve motivation and good ideas because of you. Thanks for this.
Thank you Brian! I’m always happy to inspire!
