Wow! Guys, I can’t believe that we are in the last stages with Project Fresh Start! If you have been following on Instagram, then you know how much of a transformation this 1980 home is undergoing.
One of my favorite parts of helping clients is making awkward spaces into something truly meaningful and usable for a family.
This family of 5 desperately needed to change out an old unused wet bar into a mudroom and storage area. This space is right off the garage entrance and they tended to dump all their backpacks, purses, shoes and hats here. Just look at this before the situation. Pretty gnarly right? But soooo relatable! We all seem to have a dump zone in our house!
Farrow and Ball Paint
One of the easiest ways to define this space was to paint it a beautiful accent color! I am truly obsessed with anything Kelly Wearstler does. When I found out that she had a new collection with Farrow and Ball, I went to Farrow & Balls local showroom in Costa Mesa and got a few gallons of paint.
Her new color palette is the exact vibe I am going for!
This Faded Terra Cotta was the perfect choice because it added warmth and an energizing feel to an otherwise very dark space.
Next, I requested a color consult with a Farrow and Ball expert. Even though I knew my design and general color choices, it was so fun to have an expert bounce ideas with! This is a great service and I highly recommend.
From our consult, there are 3 steps that you can do when picking out paint:
- Test out samples – it’s important to see how your color options look in the natural light of your space. Always put up at least two or three samples on all four walls before selecting your favorite.
- Think about your mood – when choosing a color, consider the mood you want for the room. If it’s your bedroom do you want it to feel calm and soothing or dramatic and intimate? If it’s your living room do you want it to feel warm and inviting or cool and formal?
- Showcase your style – make sure the color you choose compliments your decor and furniture. No matter what color you choose you can make it look good if it fits your personal style.
Wallpaper Accent
Once I finished staining the pretty white washed shoe cubby, I realized I had another design opportunity to showcase it. Farrow and Ball’s wallpaper are truly special guys. It is painted on and the designs are gorgeous. It really seems like it is hand painted wallpaper! Plus, it matches the Farrow and Ball paint colors so you have a million ways to decorate your walls, pantries, closets, shelves! You name it, you can use this winning combination to accent anything you want at home in a truly classy and refined manner.
The Reveal
I am so happy with how this mudroom turned out. This is now a bright, functional zone for the whole family to kick their shoes off after a long day. I hope this gives you some wonderful paint ideas using Farrow and Ball’s newest collection with Kelly Wearstler. I am amazed at how paint and creativity can transform even the smallest of spaces at home!
