Master bathroom reveal day is finally here! After 10 years of dreaming, our old 1997 master bathroom has been transformed into everything we wanted and more.
I’m so excited to share all the wonderful details and to share my journey. For those of you who have followed me for some time, you have felt my angst about this formerly dark and dank space.
I’ve written multiple blog posts about how to brighten up the bathroom with wallet friendly easy projects that were great short term fixes.
Plus keep reading for an amazing giveaway of the one product that completely transformed this room!
I’m so happy to finally share our real down to the studs remodel!
Here is the before:
Now look at the renovated space from the same angle!
It has exceeded our family’s expectations and we are all in love with it.
As an enthusiastic advocate for wellness in the home, I am usually touting small ways to make a difference in your daily living. However, when your budget allows a full transformation, it can certainly be life changing.
Let’s go corner to corner for an epic tour!
Master Bathroom Reveal: VELUX Skylight
First up, have you noticed how light and bright this space is?
What makes it so dramatic?
Look up. Yep, look up at the space! Â Do you see it? The VELUX No Leak Solar Powered Skylight has completely changed our master bathroom. Even with the rainy weather we have had lately, this room is brilliant with natural light.
The windows on the right used to be the only light source but the shades were closed most of the time for privacy reasons.
Now you can see the natural light coming in from above all the time!
Growing up in rainy Seattle and having an architect dad meant playing with lots of small models of houses with skylights. They were so cute to me!
As an adult, I now understand why he incorporated them into so many of the houses he designed in the grey rainy climate of Seattle.
We needed all the time extra light we could get!
Admittedly, I never thought about skylights here in sunny CA because natural light is so much more accessible.
Except in this bathroom. Travis constantly complained how dark it was. Even with the vanity lights on, it seemed kind of depressing.
Master Bathroom Reveal: Easy Installation
So when VELUX approached me, it was as if I found the holy grail of design solutions for this space.
Of course, let the light stream from above!
This side of the room consistently was dark and uninspired.
Now look how bright, fresh and happy this corner is. Swoon!
After the initial demo finished, VELUX came in with their expert staff and cut out a 22.5’x 46.5″ rectangle in my roof. I was a bit nervous at first but with the first class customer service and rendering of what it would look like beforehand, I put my full trust in the process.
This photo shows how the installer used masking tape to show me the skylight’s position before he cut the hole.
Because there were no structural changes in the roof, the process went fairly quickly!
In three short days, the hole was cut, the skylight  installed, and the interior drywalled and painted.
Now it truly looks like it’s always been there!
Hands down, I recommend a sky light to introduce natural light and gives it new life.
And guess what else?
The skylight OPENS. Yes! It opens to bring in much needed fresh air.
Previously, we would have to step either into our tub or shower to open a window. Now with the VELUX Active Netatmo App, we can  remotely control the skylight functions.
If it’s 90 degrees outside and the sun is beating down, we can close the blinds automatically.
And both the skylight and the blinds are solar powered.
You heard me! Automatically and remotely all by the VELUX Active app. This can occur even if you are away!Â
As if all of this isn’t blowing your mind, it also can tell you if the room is too hot or cold and automatically close or open the skylight and blinds. We are so incredibly happy with this new surprise edition to the master bathroom.
Every time I step into our shower, I say a prayer of gratitude. I feel extremely blessed to be refreshed in such a beautiful space.
The small window above is really the only window up until now that we opened for fresh air.
But with the new skylight we can easily open from up above! I am totally  serious when I tell you that  it feels so good to get that whoosh of fresh air from the sky!
It comes down with an invigorating chill and breaks up the moisture after a hot shower.
Did you know the quick heating up of your body and cool down stimulates our body, gets our blood flowing and brings renewed energy?
It’s a scientific fact my friends! So with the new skylight, we are able to have this opportunity any time we want for renewal.
Our morning routine has improved because now Travis can find his glasses and I have enough natural light for non clown makeup application! I  found that the darker the bathroom meant the more makeup I put on which wasn’t always a good look for me.
I am a giver and whenever something amazing happens to me, my first thought is I gotta share this!
Well, don’t think for a minute I am done yet!

Just stunning!!! I’m curious where the toilet is? Also, how large is this room?
If you can visualize the toilet room behind this view 🙂
Incredible!
Thank you Tracy!A dream worth waiting for!
Anita, the remodel is stunning! I love my VELUX skylights- game changer! The tub is awesome – a glass of wine, a little snack = bliss!
Thank you!
Hi! Where is the lamp from. So nice and modern.
I will be listing sources soon! It is Target! Can you believe it?
Anita your bathroom renovation is outstanding! All the details are so well thought out and that skylight brings in so much wonderful light. I love the free standing tub, the shower, the sink console, the mirrors, lighting and the greenery! Wow!!!!!!
Thank you so much! It is unbelievable to see it in person and not just in my design mind!
Could you please share where you got your bath rug??
Yes! I will be listing sources soon! This one is from Rejuvenation!
Gorgeous bathroom…where is the vanity from? Is it custom built?
It is! But not more expensive than pre-fab! So always do your homework and ask!
Hi Anita! Looks great! Would you mind sharing where those vanity mirrors are from? Love how tall they are. Thx!
Hi Frank! Thanks so much for the compliment! They were custom however not expensive at all. They were not heavy or cumbersome. Yet sleek and tall. I hope this helps!
This is nothing less than a masterpiece!
Can you share the source for the tall mirrors?
Thanks so much.
Hi Roxanne! The tall mirrors were custom however not hard to make and not $$. Perhaps if you go to your local mirror store, they can make something for you as well!
Anita, your bathroom looks beautiful! Do you mind sharing if those are marble floors, and if so, how you feel about them? Any issues or regrets about the marble?
Thank you so much! This was my big splurge and I was very nervous about it! However NO REGRETS! It elevates the space into a light and classic feel. Yet the penny round shape is fun and flexible. Nothing stuffy about it. I will have to maintain it by sealing it once a year.
Cant get over how pretty this is! Just wondering, I’ve seen a lot of mentions of clients homes… are we ever gonna see these projects on the blog?? Luv ur home, but it might be interesting to see your style in another setting…. xoxo
Yes! They are still in renovation phase. I hope they can be done by mid to late May and I will blog all about them! I have more coming too!
Can you provide the link to your bathtub?
yes! I love Signature Hardware tubs. It is the Boyce Acrylic in 56″ length.
