Rug Obsession

I have an obsession with these beauties. I do not mean the manufactured ones with rubber backing that are seen at the big box stores. These true vintage hand loomed rugs have my design heart infinitely.

You know what I love most about these gorgeous rugs? They literally add pop of color, style, print, pattern you name it everything all in one! Look at this white kitchen above. It is subtle but the muted earthy blues and blush and print even fringe adds depth, layer and texture.

As you know, my holy trinity of design are these three: depth, layer and texture. Hey, I am going to trademark this I think? You heard it here first my design besties:)

A Few Tips on Rug Searching

  1. Online search terms: Antique, Kilim, Kazak, Vegetable Dye, Turkish, Hamadan, Balouche, Blue/Navy, Pink/Coral, Vintage
  2. Limit your budget to narrow search results.
  3. Ebay: Watch like a hawk and bid at the VERY END of activity! Patience is a virtue here. No matter how badly you want that rug calling your name, hold on and bid until the last minute.
  4. Worn out, beaten up pieces are ok! My favorite pieces I see in homes and online have wear and tear that screams of history and treasure. Even a few holes within reason are great.
  5. Say NO to untied edges that are fraying (not fringe). Handmade rugs are weaved. So it’s safe to say that once a loose end exists, its just a matter of time the whole thing will unravel.
