The One Method to Relax

To say I love tub time is an understatement! When I was a therapist seeing many clients on a weekly basis,  I needed a practical way to unwind and de-stress.

Getting into a hot bath and relaxing every tension in my shoulders and unwinding my mental state  was my answer.

However with the old roman oval tub, it was extremely cumbersome to get in and out of. Add the two windows in the corner and there wasn’t much privacy.

The shades were down 99% of the time and when I did take baths, the fixtures were broken and tarnished from 20 years of wear and tear.

Take a look at how it used to be! The 1997 white square tiles were fine but the grout! Ughs, talk about a total pain in the arse to clean.

And even though it is in the background, the silver tub faucet handles had broken off several times. But I rather saved the money than replace. So I just promptly put it back on loosely every time it fell off.

The one method you need to relax: Free Standing Tub

Cue my new Signature Hardware freestanding Boyce tub! It’s been a few months since we renovated and I am still in love with this compact yet very functional corner.

I was a little worried I couldn’t fit a freestanding tub in here due to the plumbing location and size. But Signature Hardware came to the rescue as they have tubs as small as 56”  and as large as almost 70 inches long.

Thankfully I am petite so the 56” tub was perfect for the space and for me!

The wonderful curves and modern refined design immediately caught my eye when I went onto Signature Hardware’s website.

I have been using Signature Hardware’s sinks and vanities and tubs for clients. So it was especially exciting to have one in my own bathroom too.

They have many choices ranging from more traditional shapes to modern and even the tulip style. You will have to hop onto their site to see them with your own eyes! So much selection and equally great quality.

The one method you need to relax: Self Care at Home

I am a strong advocate for self care. Naturally as a designer and therapist, self care falls into both wheel houses.

Designing a functional and stylish home is not only fun and exciting, it also enhances your home experience on a daily if not moment by moment basis.

Part of self care is realizing your limits and energy levels. Are you an extrovert or introvert? Where do you draw your energy from? Being in a crowd of lively people or by yourself reading a book?

Either way we all need down time at home and creating a spa like environment is essential in developing self awareness and replenishing.

Did you know the hot water in a bath increased blood circulation which wakes your brain and body up? Then as you get out of the bath carefully, the cooling of your body invite endorphins to ease your mood into a happy place.

That is another reason why I love my bath time in the freestanding tub so much! It is an amalgamation of my two loves. Great design and self care!

The one method you need to relax: A clean and modern look

As you can tell, I love the clean lines. With the floor to ceiling wall tile and the extra long narrow vanity mirrors, everything is visually straight.

So whenever you have a dominant shape in a room, it’s nice to add something different to throw things off a bit.

The subtle oval shape of the Boyce tube does just that for my bathroom design. It is not too round or feminine. Yet adds the right amount of curves and softness to really balance the corner.

This is how you can always keep yourself in the checks and balances of things when designing.

Proportion and balance are very important in interior design.

One method you need to relax: Bath Accessories

Once I got my bathtub installed, the fun began! On Instagram and Pinterest, I saw multitudes of bathroom images with a bath caddy, candles and decor.

It was a total dream and I couldn’t wait to have that dream come alive in here!

Because there was so much white and black metals going on, a white oak wood vanity was an incredible way to offset these other finishes.

To bring the same idea into the tub area, I got a teak bathtub caddy. Adding a supremely easy air plant that loves steam for hydration and a pretty face towel, I was set for the relaxation train!

Do you love a good soak? Even if you don’t, I highly advise taking a bath when you are anxious or stressed, it really does your body and mind good.

Now with this beautiful tub by  Signature Hardware, I really can’t imagine any other way to re-align and focus on the positive things in life even when I am bogged down by stressful details.

I am always eagerly offering ways to encourage you to better your home, your self and relationships.

I hope this is another impactful way you can consider in your home too!

Happy day!

I love this bathroom! What are the dimensions of the room? Do you have a picture of where the toilet is?

    • Anita Yokota says:

Hi its approx. 14′ x 9’6″. The toilet is in a small water closet to your left when you are looking at the vanity straight on. Basically to the left of the shower. I hope this helps! xo

Where did you get that light pendant over the bathtub, I LOVE IT!

    • Anita Yokota says:

HI Lexy! It is by Target but discontinued. Boo! If you follow me on Like to know it app, I link lots of similar ones!

Hi! This is a beautiful bathroom and it is our inspiration for our small bathroom remodel. What is the color of the marble floor you used? Do you regret using marble, as I’ve read it needs to be upkept? What color grout did you use with it? Thank you!

    • Anita Yokota says:

Hi Jennifer! I love my penny round marble flooring. It was my one big splurge in here! So far so good! I do know you need to seal and maintain it so I will be looking into that soon. For now it seems very easy to maintain. Light grey grout color was used.
