By having a master-plan ready for action, we can be flexible where it matters most. After doing it once, (though hopefully never again) I’ll definitely start keeping a list of what I need and where I keep it.
Smell is the sense most closely related to memory. Certain scents can evoke an emotional reaction, or stir up nostalgic feelings. With such a strong tie to emotion, a signature scent helps stimulate the kind of environment we want to create in the home.
Our clients want to be able to comfortably host their grandchildren when they visit from Japan. By strategically opening up the kitchen and brightening the space, we set a stage for interaction with the opportunity for sleepovers right in the heart of their home.
In a year FULL of overwhelm, the holidays should be a respite from our troubles—not another thing to stress over! With a growth mindset, obstacles are simply hurdles to overcome, and the outcome is allowed to look different depending on the process. You deserve to celebrate!
Sometimes it’s not about doing the decorating for your kids, but giving them a chance to revel in the holiday celebration for themselves. If DIYs have taught me anything, it’s that joy lies in the doing of the thing.
More than the leaves change over time—we do too! Getting into the seasons helps us process subtle shifts in new ways, associating them with inner growth and new goals. It’s a great time to try something new, “just because,” whether it’s a personal challenge or a cute DIY.
We’ve always loved the desert, but our recent trip to The JTH Posada in Arizona provided so much inspiration for our in-progress bathroom redesign. Plus, spending time together as a family totally reminded me why we’re doing this reno in the first place.
In the spirit of the fall, I recently made a fun trip to my favorite local nursery. They do a wonderful job celebrating every seasonal shift, and this time of year is no exception! Especially in warmer climates, actively celebrating the seasons helps to visualize the growth all around us.
